Anyways, the "other" section in the storage tab seems to be free storage on the data volume. My guess is that Apple didn't yet update the storage tab in "About this Mac" to recognise the new FS layout. That means that only 10GB of my 250GB SSD are "empty", which makes the disk space warning freak out, even though only 62GB of the 230GB on the data volume are occupied. I investigated and found that Catalina appears to create its own APFS Volume for user data, so there are now 2 macOS Volumes, one for system (which is about 10GB in my case) and one for user data (which is 230GB). The storage tab in "About this Mac" showed 9GB of free space and 165GB of "other". I got continuous low storage warnings even though I have pretty much nothing on my Mac. I installed the Catalina Beta today and pretty quickly noticed something weird going on.
